Was a pilgrimage for me till my last day, says Bombay HC judge on retirement day
MUMBAI: It was the last day of Justice Shahrukh J Kathawalla at Bombay high court on Wednesday. He retired after 14 years as Bombay HC Judge, his tenure leaving many who may have violated a law in fear of his reprimand and others, especially those waiting for a permanent roof over their head, in joy at interim orders of reprieve.
Justice Kathawalla created ripples when he sat till midnight to finish a board and later even fill 3 am once, sitting often, for a period, till hours after the court working hours ended at 5 pm. His prolonged hours drew mixed responses from the bar, not all were fans, but always a cheer from litigants.
