Dr. Birendra Saraf, a senior advocate, will be appointed as the new Advocate General for the state of Maharashtra.
The Maharashtra cabinet, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, accepted the resignation of incumbent Attorney General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni earlier today.
Saraf’s name was recommended by the cabinet at its meeting today. Saraf will be appointed as the next Advocate General of Maharashtra once Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari gives his approval.
Saraf has spent the last 25 years practising before the Bombay High Court.
He graduated from Government Law College in Mumbai and was a three-year topper at Mumbai University.
He worked as a junior lawyer in the chambers of the current Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud.
Saraf was appointed as Senior Advocate in 2020.
