GIPC urges India to step up IP protection, enforcement

The US Chamber of Commerce's Global Innovation Policy Center (GIPC) expressed its unease over the slow momentum of India's protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, especially in the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic.

GIPC expressed concern over India's proposal along with South Africa at WTO - seeking waiver of certain IP provisions under Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Rights (TRIPS) agreement for Covid-related medical technologies.

India has improved its score by 13% in the last 10 years, but it still ranks at 43 out of 55 countries featured in the International IP Index 2022 released by the US Chamber Of Commerce. India's scores 38.65%, which is lower compared to Asian average of 55.82%.
